In 2013, Alex Shaw published a small novel called The Cartographer’s Handbook, the first in a series called The New Century Multiverse. The premise is alt history, where post-Civil War America is suddenly overcome with a plague of dangerous monsters that overwhelm the Reconstruction, and bring the nation to its knees. The series is not about its fall, however, but about the heroes that help bring it back from the brink, and step into a wider world that is not the one they knew. New mysteries to unlock, magics to discover, and worlds to explore. Ten years later, the New Century Multiverse is now thirteen books strong, with more on the way. It has had 2 major story arcs, an Avengers style coming together of the heroes of its various books, and multiple worlds and genres to explore. This is its first fan podcast. Through The Wind Door is a deep dive exploration of the novels and their corresponding audiodramas, along with interviews of the cast and creators. Accessible to new readers and long time fans, join Greg and Toby as they share thoughts about this engaging series.

And here it is. The final interviews for Stonespring Maidens to help us close out the year and bring us into the next. Alex and Sharon take us through the origins and the building of the latest story and audiodrama of New Century.
We get off on several tangents throughout this first part, talking as much about New century in general and how stories are crafted as some of the details of this latest iteration. We get into discussions about romance literature, romances (and their patterns) in New Century, Representation and genres, and more about the construction of Autumn itself in the early days.

Welcome to the Wind Door less travelled.
Welcome to Century Tails.
A new show as a part of Through The Wind Door, we discuss the world of New Century with a wide angle lens. Running themes, components, and topics of various kinds that relate not only to the New Century Multiverse, but to storytelling as a whole. As a catchall for discussions beyond the regular retrospectives, there may be different guests on, but for the short term, my partner will be Maureen Foley, known best as the voice of Hrao.
With that in mind, we return to the world of Rama to discuss one of the storybuilding components of Tiger's Eye: the Gods of Durga Tribe. In this episode, we explore:

Our final ruminations on Seth. Toby and I reflect on what we know and what we guess, based alone on how he is depicted in this novel. Further discussion on how he might see Thomas and humanity itself, as well as discussion on narcissistic tendencies, potential past rejection, and similarities to another famous movie monster that has some connection to the world of New Century.
Many more discussions to come, obviously. The book is only closed for now, and we must wait till more is revealed (Though if you want some spoilery discussion, that is all coming next week!) Outtakes after the outro!
